One of the key activities run by Institute of Rural and Social Services since 1989 is the ‘school for the mentally challenged children’.
The total strength of the school is 79 (40 Granded Student & 35 Non Granded Student). We are pleased to say that the trained teachers in our school play a major role and contribute the fullest in the development of our special children.
Academic syllabus:- Considering the Intelligent Quotient (IQ) of the children attending the school, categorization of the children is done and accordingly different activities are designed, planned and implemented for the children. Special efforts to develop their communication skills, self-sufficiency/independence and motor development are taken by the teachers. As per their personal needs and the interest of the child, exclusive vocational training programs/courses are organized for them. Making files, weaving /netting, drawing, making posters are some of the trainings organized under vocational training program for the children in the school. The items made by these children attract people with philanthropic traits and people having faith and conviction in development of mentally challenged children.
Cultural activities:- In order to enhance the process of socialization and to bring the special ones in to the process of adopting social norms and customs, different events like Independence Day, Republic Day, Anniversaries/centenaries of great leaders and freedom fighters, National and International Days and some festivals are celebrated as part of cultural activity in the school.
Nutritious mid-day meal:- The scheme initiated by the Government of India aiming at making provision for the nutritious mid day meal for the children in the schools is also run by Institute for Rural Development and Social Services.
The children are encouraged to perform simple and easy activities while making preparation of the recipes such as cutting/peeling vegetables, cleaning pulses & rice or frying some ingredients. Their participation is aimed at teaching simple functions and performance of tasks independently, also aiming at enhancing their confidence and enjoyment in the activity. The meals prepared in very hygienic conditions are served with love and care to the children.
